This guy better not cost us the NBA season

This guy:

That's Jeffrey Kessler.  In an ideal world, a sports fan would never have to hear his name.  But every so often, the league agreements and bylaws need to be updated, and lawyers such as Mr. Kessler step in.  A necessary evil, but even so, I'd like to think they could just do their job, quickly and with no missteps, to get another season rolling.

That's apparently not good enough for Jeffrey, though.  Instead of just working subtly behind the scenes to prolong the lockout and keep those legal fees rolling in, the moron got himself into the headlines with a classic play of the race card: "Instead of treating the players like partners, they're treating them like plantation workers."

This shouldn't require any retort, but what the hey.  I'm not the first to point out that this whole dispute is "millionaires vs. billionaires."  Really, Jeff, you think haggling about the difference between a 47%-53%, 50%-50%, 51.5%-48.5% or whatever split of BRI amounts to slavery?  "Slavery" means 0%, you asshole.

It's not just the comment that's infuriating.  Is he trying to sabotage this season?  Why even open your mouth, Jeff?  The fallout from this gaffe easily drowned out any small rumors of progress.

It really seems like the incentives for people like Jeff are diametrically opposed to our interests as fans.  What have you been doing in the 130+ days of lockout, Jeffrey?  It's (probably) not fair to lay the blame solely on you.  But it seems like there was no progress over the summer, when matters could be settled without missing a beat.  I thought people like you were brought in to facilitate negotiations!  And now we start hitting practical deadlines and arbitrary ultimatums, and you drop this bomb. So being an asshole behind closed doors wasn't enough?

I'm not one to make wild accusations about people I really don't know, but Jeff, you definitely seem like an incompetent asshole.  At least if you cost us this NBA season, we can take some solace that you won't leave with your reputation entirely intact.  Not like you did after the NFL lockout... damn, who the eff is this asshole?
